The last day of school in most rural one room school houses was a time of celebration not only for the students but also for their families and the community around the school.  The last day normally occurred toward the middle of April and marked not only the end of school but end of the winter and the beginning of planting.
   Everyone dressed up and parents would come bringing picnic lunches. Games were played and pictures were taken (if someone was fortunate enough to own a camera).
