Miss Mary Sheetz departed this life October
7, 1896, in her 26th year. The funeral services were conducted by Rev.
W.M. Woodward in the M.P. church in Allen, Kans., October 8.
The esteem in which sister Mary was held was evidenced in the vast
congregation assembled. She was in the truest sense of the word and
estimable young lady, an obedient, affectionate daughter, a kind sister and
obliging friend. We have no doubt of Mary being in the Glory world.

A Sad Event
The startling announcement of the death last Wednesday of Miss Mary E. Sheetz
at Osawatomie was a shocking surprise to our citizens and by the time the
remains arrived here on The Thursday afternoon’s train and were taken to the
M.P. church, an immense concourse of people from town and country had collected
to express sorrow for the going out of the young life and sympathy for those
who are left stricken by her departure.
The services were conducted by Rev. W. M. Woodward, pastor of the
church whose feeling discourse was a balm to bruised hearts. At the
close the entire congregation took a last look of the well beloved features
of the deceased and the procession formed and proceeded to the cemetery.
G.F. Bates, G.E. Gorman, D. and Geo. H. Reaburn, W.O. Skaggs and C.A. Sanders
were pallbearers, and the remains were conveyed in a fine hearse from Emporia,
followed by over fifty carriages and other on horseback, on wheels and a foot,
making altogether a line nearly three-fourths of a mile in length.
At the grave the usual touching ceremonies were held, and the last
act in this sad life’s drama was closed forever and aye to mortal eyes.
