Allen, Kansas, April 5, 1895

  N.H. Putnam died yesterday morning, April 4, at his home in this city.  He was born in the state of New York, April 13, 1829.  He moved with his parents to Pennsylvania when but 10 years old and resided there until 1860 when he moved with his family to Illinois.
  He enlisted with Company M. Illinois Cavalry and served 3 years and 11 months.
  He moved to Kansas in 1867, and has resided here since.  He leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. E.L. Joyce and Mrs. E.A. French to mourn their loss.  The last sad words will be spoken this afternoon at the residence and the remains escorted to their final resting place in the Allen Cemetery.
