E.R. Marcy
He was born at Wellington, Ohio, March 28, 1847, and about equally divided his time until he was 17 years old between his birth place and Charlotte, Michigan. He spent two years of this time, however at Michigan City, Indiana.  In August ’64 he enlisted in 176 Ohio Infantry, and served through the remainder of the war.  Upon his discharge from the service, he returned to Wellington, remaining a year, and then went to Charlotte Michigan, where on the 4th day of July ’66, he was married to Nancy E. Bailey of Berry County, Michigan.  Remaining there until the fall of ’68, he returned to Ohio.  His occupation while in Michigan was farming; in Ohio that of dairy farming.  In the spring of ’78, he obeyed the instinct of the wise and came overland to Kansas. Was 48 days on the road; came direct to Lyon county and settled on ’42 creek.  He owned and farmed for a time a piece of land which he sold to Judge DeCamp, it being the first piece of land purchased by the Judge in Lyon County.  Mr. Marcy then bought other land in that vicinity to the amount of 240 acres which he owned and farmed until November, ’86 when he moved into Allen, and opened the first stock of groceries in the town, beginning operations in the Jackson building. His ability to serve as an official was tested during his residence on ’42 creek, where he filled the office of treasurer of school district No. 8, four years, also the office of constable for two years, both of which he filled with credit.  He now serves as director of the school board in this district.  Two children, Ernest E. aged 17 and Mettie E., aged 18, complete the list of the family.
