Mrs. Johnston Dead
After an illness of several years, Mrs. Sarah
Johnston died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Rowley northwest of
Allen Saturday at 11 o’clock, at the age of 88 years.Funeral services were held at the Allen M.E. church Monday morning at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Hedden, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Allen cemetery. Sarah Cain was born in county Downe, Ireland, October 15, 1815. She was married to Thomas Johnston at Pittsburg, Pa., in 1845. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive her as follows: Mrs. Lizzie Rowley, J.T. Johnston, of Allen; R.H. Johnston, of Glenn Campbell, Pa., and Mrs. J.A. Schrenghost, of Sumner, Washington. In 1864 she was left a widow and the same year joined the United Presbyterian church, to which she remained faithful until death. In 1869 she came to Kansas where she has continuously resided until the bugal call and in her passing the community looses a good neighbor and the children a loving mother who will all have the sympathy of everyone in this their sad hour of affliction. |
