Robert
McMillan was born 1802 in Clark Co, Kentucky to mother Mary Strode
(born 27 Dec
1766 in Augusta, Virginia) and father Robert McMillan who was also born
in
Clark Co., Kentucky, but in 1755. His parents were married before 1787.
The
senior Robert McMillan died 25 Feb. 1811 in Clark Co., Kentucky. He
was the son of James McMillan
(born about 1718 or 1730 in Edinburgh Scotland
and died 1799 in Clark Co., Kentucky.) and Margaret White (born 1735 in
Cimberland City, Pennsylvania,
died 1793 in Clark Co. Kentucky).
Robert
McMillan (b 1802) had several wives and at least 17 children!
Between
1827 and 1830, he moved from Kentucky to Edgar Co., Illinois
where he lived for many years mostly in Paris
Township, before
removing to Kansas
probably between
1866 and 1870.
With
wife Nancy Winning (b about 1800 in Kentucky, m 15 Jun 1824 in Clark
Co.,
Kentucky, d before 1840) he had six children: James
Winning McMillan, *Capt. Robert McMillan Jr.
(technically the
third) near whom he is buried, another child whose name I do not know,
John W
McMillan, Mary Jane McMillan, and Henry F McMillan.
He
married his next wife, Nancy Ann Mays (b 1805) on 15 Aug. 1840 (in
Edgar Co., Illinois)
and together
they had two children: Alexander W
McMillan and Edward B McMillan.
His
next wife was Martha E Kemper (b about 1826 in Virginia) and they
married 9 Jul.
1847 in Edgar Co., Illinois.
Together they had nine children between about 1847 and 1866 in Illinois. They
were: Nancy Eilene C
McMillan, Susan L McMillan, Winfield Scott McMillan, Salina L
McMillan, Juda L McMillan, Eliza
McMillan, Harriet McMillan, Clay McMillan, and Grant McMillan.
